Blogging Goals Update Post (Some Blog Metrics)

As my Grandfather would say, I am busier than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs, but I thought I would let you know where I stood on some metrics I measure.

I announced at the first of the month that my goal was to break the Technoratti 50k mark by the 15th… well, it just did not happen: The best I have gotten is at 64k. I understand the lower you get the harder it becomes, so I guess I will keep on plugging.

I am hovering around 60 RSS subscribers, with a goal of 100 by the end of the month (if you want to help out, you could subscribe to my full RSS feed).  🙂

My Alexa rank is at 440k… this is a metric I really would not care about, except for the fact that advertisers care about it. Therefore, I HAVE to care about it. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do to affect it, other than increase traffic. (Sigh…)

Since my humble site has been up, there has not been a Google Page Rank update, but we are hoping for an initial page rank of at least 4 when it comes around.

My largest generator of traffic remains StumbleUpon (Love me some StumbleUpon).

Thank you again for your readership, and I will keep you informed!

  1. I have stumbled around a bit on StumbleUpon, and I like it. But, how do you use it to generate traffic for your site?

Oh, and I love your grandfather’s saying.

  2. Even though my blog is in Alexa Top 100k, it took me over 17 months of blogging to get to that place.

And this Technorati rank is even difficult to maintain than Alexa rank, unless you’re popular. Never gone anything better than 49k something.

Wishing you all the best, Hugh. 🙂

  3. One way to speed up the increase of your Alexa rank is to install the Alexa widget that you can get from their site. When I installed it about 3 months ago my rank was almost a million. Now, I just managed to sneak into the top 100k. Of course the more unique ips that view your blog with the widget, the faster your jump in rank will be. Good luck!

  4. Hugh,
I was away for a few days so I am catching up. One great way to improve your Technorati Authority is to use that term in your post. It is one of there top keywords.
I found that Stumble worked fantastically for a week and then it has done nothing. I would get 150 visits for an hour after someone Stumbled a post and then it would die down. After a week someone “stumbling a post” did nothing.

Last but not least – Technorati Authority is based on the number of independent blogs where a link to your blog can be seen. If you only comment on 50 blogs you will only get 50 points plus a few for your own posts. There are some other tricks to getting a higher Authority rating but I am not the expert at carousels, memes, and link-love.

I can’t help your RSS numbers – I have been a subscriber from the day I found your blog. Maybe you can find a friend with a server farm…
